Personality and History
Adaarah is incredibly intelligent, but somewhat lacking in common sense. She's quite able to pickup on subtleties, innuendoes, abstract ideas and the like and run with them - sometimes too much so. She can appear either a complete airhead or someone who Knows Something She Shouldn't.
Very friendly and social, can get along with damn near anyone. Consciously indifferent to the pecking order; subconsciously very aware of her lack of status, especially in the Third Millennium. Loves to talk with people, drawing out their ideas and opinions; thoroughly enjoys Servan's debates. Can be very long-winded and roundabout in speech; jokes that since she was a late talker (didn't speak until she was four) and her sending also manifested late, she's making up for lost time.
Needs to withdraw from society at times; gradually quieting the constant chatter and attendingsocial functions to where she's seen at dance practice/performance, her workshop and nowhere else. These periods of isolation can last for moons or years (the longest was three years). When Adaarah re-emerges, she throws herself back into the whirlwind of Tower society.
Doesn't consider herself on artist on, say, her father or Mikail's level. Enjoys art shows, recitals, etc., always willing to give her opinion and point out any perceived flaws -- an expert at constructive criticism, careful to point out this is her opinion, and she doesn't speak for everyone. Appreciates the absurd, silly and goofy as well as the profound and serious.
Not very courageous, disinclined to 'rock the boat'. Tries to stay out of politicking, whether at the Old Settlement, Tower or New Hope.
Loves her family, tries to be as close to them as personalities will allow. She and Nez had a brief father/daughter relationship when Adaarah was very young, gradually segueing into a friendship as she matured. Nyessti remained "Mother" until Adaarah's late adolescence, then settled into the same category as Nez. She treats her half-siblings as siblings, whether or not the feeling is reciprocated.
Quite the party girl, enjoying both drugs and drink, even during the years of Tyaar's decline. In the Third Millennium she had to be much, much more cautious, not only in her parties and party-mates, but everywhere, as she tends to defer to authority and think about it later. She manages to gain some control over this knee-jerk reaction, but it's difficult. Sexually curious; willing to try anything once **And once was often enough!**. Fascinated and repelled by the BDSM crowd, disturbed by an inner desire to be the one wielding the whip.
Very loyal to Tyaar, and remained in a state of denial until well after Taywar's suicide. Found her mother's Functionalization hard not to believe because of Adaarah's loyalty to Tyaar and the Tower, and Nyessti's own inclinations. Havrin's... was harder to swallow, though she did lay a good deal of it on Jinan and Wyn's doorsteps. Servan's assasination attempt on Tyaar, and Servan's 'cure', drove home to Adaarah the changes in Tyaar, as well as her own -- and everyone else's -- complete inability to do anything. Knowing her own insignificance and faced with her own cowardice, she went with the flow of the river as much as she could, and tried not to get smashed on the rocks.
Early in 1082, she found a way out of the Tower, and began preparing to leave. Having no knowledge of Twillor's Escape, the failed plan smashed her own courage to flinders. During a dance practice some time later she fell, shattering her knee. The injury was healed by Tyaar, but Adaarah suffered from phantom pain, and walks with a slight limp ever since. [Or maybe it wasn't so psychosomatic after all... Ree? Would Tyaar poke around in A.'s mind to discover her own escape plans? Would he want to leave a little 'reminder' of her failure if he did?]
Adaarah jumped at the chance to leave the Tower. Despite her constant refrain of "That's how it was done in the Old Settlement" she manages to make friends with the non-Tower elves, rebuild her self-confidence and deal with her last thousand years in the Tower.
