PERSONAL INFO: Orphaned at a young age, Dusk became practical and self-sufficient. She wandered for a few years before settling at Great Water Holt. At first she was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people and developed an almost obsessive shyness. However, Tinker managed to become her friend and slowly brought Dusk into a few of the social circles. Her shyness remains to this day, but it is not nearly as debilitating as it had been. She had developed a crush on a young sailor and as a result learned quite a bit of sealore --among which were sailing, fishing and navigation. She fought by is side during the Great Battle, lost her concentration when he went into a berserker rage and took a leg wound. She refused to allow the healers to take care of it more than superficially, and now has a limp due to uncorrected muscle damage. Finding the resulting changes in the holt and tribe unbearable, she volunteered to go with Tinker on the trek to Wolfgang and got captured by the Mraal. She escaped with the others and continued on to Wolfgang, but after Tyaar's attack on Mikail, she opted to return to Great Water and warn Halfwise. When they sent another party to Tower Mountain, Dusk declared she had had enough of fighting and tried to settle down at Great Water again, but found it impossible to live there. Having heard of New Hope's establishment, she decided to go there and see if she might be able to make a home there. When she arrived, she was welcomed by friends from Great Water as well as her short stays at the Tower and Wolfgang. Feeling more comfortable there than she had felt anywhere else since before GWGBII, she chose to stay.

One afternoon, while chatting with Nalkor, she bonded with a fledgling which she eventually named Tailspin due to her erratic flight patterns, and began hawkrider training. She was flying patrol when a large ship hove to nearby and went to see what was going on. After exchanging greetings with the ship's Master, she guided them to New Hope. Landing Tailspin at the eyrie, she went to greet the ship and Recognized Fletcher, one of the crew. They settled down together, but found it difficult to deal with each other's personalities. After an accident that resulted in a miscarriage, they agreed to live separately as occasional lovemates. Though she is known to sail with the Cowrie during the on-again phase of their lovemating, she stayed with her friends at Whistleleaf.

The atmosphere around New Hope has enabled Dusk to blossom emotionally to the point that most people are unaware of her shyness unless they'd known her before her arrival. She gets along with all the hawkriders and unbonded hatchlings seem to trust her. She enjoys hanging out at the eyries when she has no pressing business elsewhere.

She has discovered over the last century or so that her relationship with Fletcher has become a lot less rocky, and is "on" more often than not, but is cautious of mentioning this to him for fear of his reaction. She'd like to try for another child, but not badly enough to pester the healers. (Besides, she's afraid this'll start up the old arguments about non-Gliding hawkriders.)
