BACKGROUND/PERSONALITY: Egotistical and vain and infuriatingly self-centred.  Generally the type who if he doesn't want to do something, he just won't do it, which gives him the appearance of being lazy.  He only puts out an effort into something unpleasant when it benefits himself, or he'll do it if it is something he cares about.  Never does anything by halves when he does do something, and is an all-or-nothing sort of guy.  Nurses a hatred until revenge is satisfied, then forgets it; proud of his music and works hard at it. When it happens, he falls in love totally and hard.

Mercenary.  Willing to do nearly anything or go up against anyone if he is remunerated well enough.  Tenacious.  Quite capable of bullying weaker minded or gentler elves.  Displays a major attitude around people he disdains, and sometimes around those who intimidate him.

Motivations are self-preservation and self-interest.  He's not hard to get along with if you don't go out of your way to provoke him.  Unpredictable and dangerous when angry or when he feels slighted.  Normally completely indifferent to the feelings of others.

Emerel is blatantly a lookist and is assured in his own beauty.

He dislikes being bossed around, therefore dislikes authority figures; prefers to work with someone as an equal or even more preferable is he works with someone where he can be the boss, but he'll settle for equal terms.  He hates
being confined.  Emerel is not claustrophobic, he merely needs more room to roam in than the 3rd Millennium Tower allowed.  Confinement sometimes makes him edgy, restless and irritable.  Emerel can have a sarcastic tongue...also a bluntly crude one.  States what he thinks; doesn't pull punches.

Emerel's soft spots include: His sister Kaethe, his current lovemate (In 4th Millennium New Hope, this is Nineki), and his music (which he is also sensitive about).  He was over protective of Kaethe, frequently to the point of meddling hin her life "for her own good" and making her crazy.  Makes a totally devoted lover and can be very tender, romantic and sexy when he's in love.  When not in love, he sleeps around pretty casually.  Prefers females, but will sleep with his own gender, if said male is attractive enough, or if Emerel thinks he can get any benefit out of it.  He won't put up with much in the way of S&M/B&D unless he can be dominant. ("It can be ruinous to my porcelain
complexion.") He tried them once...no way again.  Well...not unless he can be in charge.

Known for his love songs: true love, false love, love gone wrong, infatuations, obsessions... also, he writes songs of passions of any kind.  Emerel's music can evoke the rawest of emotions and bring you to tears at his best.

Emerel actually feels emotions very strongly, but tends to contain them, especially when he's angry or hurt.  When he's angry, for example, he will suddenly become very cold and his speech becomes clipped; inside, though, he is fuming - he rarely loses control.  Emerel is also trying to project a bad boy image - he is self-contained and cool, he acts like he doesn't care what others think about him and often brushes people off if he's not interested in what they have to say or in what they are doing.  He also doesn't pay much mind to what others feel and often just says what he thinks.  He will watch what he says when it suits him though, and usually when he does, he's up to something.

Emerel moved to New Hope several years after its founding after a failed relationship with Meiji (Be around for New Hope's initial scrounging and hammering?  I think not!)  Emerel was bored and decided a stint at New Hope might just be what he needed.  While there, he manifested a gliding talent and joined the hawkriding ranks.  He also eventually developed a massive crush on Nineki.  her responses to his courtship was rather less than positive, but he persevered.

When Vanjir kicked him out of the New Hope hawkriders on grounds of  not getting along with others, Emerel followed Nineki back to Tower where he continued to court her with mixed results.  Determined to get what he wanted, no matter what the cost, he persisted and eventually won.

When Nineki returned to New Hope, Emerel followed her back there, this time to Greenwillow Household.

The Hostage Crisis proved to be an eye-opening event for Emerel (as in "No, the world does not revolve around ME!) and was a very vulnerable time for him.  The emotional bond between he and Nineki became stronger during this time.

When Geibryl was executed by Beliel in the Hidden Valley, Emerel was chivvied into taking over his position as the New Hope choral director.  Never having taken New Hope tenets to heart, and never having bothered to hid his obvious, if passive, disdain of humans, Emerel was originally very unwilling to work with what he considered essentially untrained human voices, or untrained elven ones, for that matter.  He felt that the constant change in the human contingent and the influx of new elves once the Crisis was over, which increased the size of the choir was a bane
rather than a boon and it was something he just didn't originally have the patience deal with.  Once he agreed though, he, as usual, threw his heart into the project and found he enjoyed it very much.

To say he was a hard task master was putting it mildly.  During his first practice session, he lost his temper with several people, most of whom lost their temper right back, and had at least an eight of the group quit outright.  Determined that anyone singing under his tutelage would cursed well do it to the best of their ability, he leaned on the remainder of the choral group mercilessly.  Despite his complete lack of charisma, Emerel proved almost immediately that he knew how to build a voice.

He broke the choir up into small voice sections (deciding that an elven upper soprano and a human upper soprano were two different things, for example), picked out and trained a very few very surprised new lead singers to replace some of those who quit, and insisted that everyone"Sing from here!  HERE!" (while pointing to the area below his diaphragm) and "E -NUN-ciate!"  Emerel is a pain.  He is also determined.  His sessions are exhausting and the choir has never sounded so good.  he also undergoes a change in his attitude towards humans and develops some respect, even
as they developed some respect and tolerance for his teaching methods.  Not that there aren't still occasional yelling matches...

Once Emerel could prove he could work and get along with others, especially in a working environment, he was allowed back into the Hawkriders.

His Recognition to Nineki is a one soul/two bodies situation.  Again, with Emerel, it's all or nothing.  Fatherhood terrified him, and he gladly let Nineki do most of the raising and disciplining of Sylvan.
