(Drives Sascha crazy with her militant lack of fashion sense.)PERSONALITY/HISTORY: Frodis was one of the first children born in New Hope, and grew up as the Holt was being built. She is an extremely outgoing, gregarious elf, with a gift for making herself at ease with new people and new situations. She is curious about everyone and everything, very assertive and blithely oblivious to the nuances of power plays. Not that she's insensitive; Frodis is very perceptive of others' moods. However, she is extremely direct and is almost incapable of subtlety or inuendo, and ever ready to turn an uncomfortable situation into a joke. She enjoys fishing and sailing and most other outdoor activities, likes dances and loud parties, but is also fascinated by her uncle Razmak's studies in game theory. She can pick up on the meaning of his mathematical doodles with frightening ease, but no one except herself and Razmak has ever much noticed this, and neither of them has ever thought of her ability as anything unusual. (After all, the ability to do calculus in your head never comes much in handy on a hunting trip...)
Frodis is especially curious about life in other Holts. She realizes that her life has been relatively idyllic, and will derisively refer to herself as a `callow youth' at times-- actually, she is rather well informed on `world affairs' (so far as elves have world affairs.) When she was younger she had a desire to go out and "have adventures," but is well aware that adventures in real life are not nearly so romantic as the stories make them out to be. Frodis has a definite daredevil streak, but not quite to Tanyel's extent. She's a lot more easy-going about a lot of things than either of her parents, and, in essence, hasn't really decided what she's going to do when she grows up. She's in no particular hurry about it. Non-competitive by nature, does things well out of sheer joy in doing rather than out of a desire to be "best." She has been known to deliberately fall back or drop out of some activity if it
seems to her that one of her friends "needs to win" at something.
In her extremely rare moods of adolescent angst (lasting maybe a whole afternoon at a time) Frodis occasionally feels somewhat inadequate in the company of superachievers like Snowflower, but for the most part she is a very cheerful person and has no patience with angst, her own or anyone elses'. A rather late bloomer so far as romance goes. Likes the occasional indication that male elves realize that she is a female elf, but for the most part she is perfectly willing to be "one of the guys." Not any kind of flirt, she finds the romantic entanglements of elves like Haven or Snowflower alternately baffling and amusing. Has to be pursued aggressively, or she's likely not to notice she's being pursued at all.
Her talent is a source of both pride and annoyance; it surfaces when she was six or seven years old and for some time she had very little control over it. Her mother impressed her early on with the idea that her talent was neither good nor evil of itself: it was her use of it that mattered, and she was to learn to use it responsibly. Frodis learned some control and flexibility as she got older, and can stun or stupefy animals, something she figures is a lot more useful than the ability to put elves to sleep. **I can do THAT without magic!** However, her talent doesn't really interest her in and of itself until after the hostage crisis.
Frodis has always taken the ideals of New Hope for granted and the Hidden Valley's attack and shocks and frightens her deeply. In the aftermath, unable to forgive Doleera as swiftly as her ideals tell her she ought, and wracked with guilt over her inadvertant contribution to Geibryl's death, Frodis becomes, internally at least, an angrier and more bitter person. Feeling that her anger is wrong, she hides it for some time until Doleera is brought to New Hope after her breakdown for healing. After the resultant blow-up, Frodis goes to Tower Mountain to live with her father Tanyel for several years before returning to New Hope. In the Tower, she begins for the first time to really train her magical talent, at the urging of her uncle, Vaynyar.Humans and trolls: They're people; she doesn't really have an opinion of them as a race. Deals with them on an individual basis.
Preservers: Pretty, and she likes their weird outlook.
