PERSONAL INFORMATION: Geibryl founded Springreach Household with his human friends Yusu and Shayzi shortly after the founding of New Hope. His gardening hobby was cultivated (so to speak) by the farmers among the Mraal settlers, so that he would have a useful skill to contribute to the welfare of the settlement. As a result, most of his composing and other musical shenanigans are done during the winter months (but not exclusively), when he is not needed in the fields. He eventually came to look forward to the season of winter rather more than most folks, referring to it as the "season of noise" only half-facetiously. Since the early fourth millennium he has co-directed (at first with Yusu, and later human master drummers) a percussion ensemble similar to a Balinese gamelan. He also formed and led the New Hope choral singers once he learned of the idea from Sharai.
In the first years of the settlement at New Hope, Geibryl had a creative "growth spurt" the likes of which no one had seen from him since the founding of Tower Mountain, mostly due to collaboration with human musicians. At the same time, he withdrew noticeably from his own people, not so much because he was sick of their company, but rather because he had defined the past few hundred years in terms of concealing himself and his beliefs from the other denizens of Tower Mountain, and needed to redefine his relationship with other elves. Letting go of bitterness built up over the centuries since Tyaar's madness was also a task better tackled alone, in Geibryl's opinion. During this reclusive period (which surprised the Mraal settlers not at all, considering the mythology built up around him) he may have inadvertently alienated all but his closest friends, or at least raised questions regarding his mental health. His compositions from the first decade or so of living at New Hope are characterised by an anger no one knew he had been harbouring (least of all, Geibryl himself).
In NH 19, his Recognition with Vallaree brought him back into elven "society". Lifemating was a matter of course for Geibryl (who is actually rather a traditionalist at heart), and he found the exploration of sudden intimacy with another elf was an ideal transition into learning how to trust his own kind again. The birth of the twins also jarred Geibryl with the fact that he could not be asocial and a good father at the same time as well as the fact that if he was to take on the role as an Elder of the community, he would have to know what was going on in it. He was able to define his social status in terms of his new family, and subsequently found the company of other elves to be meaningful to him once again.
His most extensive creative work during the first few decades of New Hope's settlement was a project to merge the Mraal and Tower festivals based on the cycle of the year, which was inspired by his work with the agriculturalists, his growing intimacy with the Mraal settlers and his growing understanding of the humans and the nature of their religious beliefs. An ulterior motive for Geibryl was to direct the devotions of the Mraal away from elves and toward a more pantheistic spirituality. It's likely he had help in this.
After coming out of his hermit phase, Geibryl became quietly gregarious, a participant observer of the activities of others * this is probably a holdover from his people-watching habit in Tower. He was never one for small talk and he never developed the habit of making it. Often he is present, without being intrusive. Even in council he spoke rarely and when he did, it was because he felt he had something important to say. He reads people well, but doesn't set out to use what he knows for malicious purposes.
Geibryl was very happy at New Hope, and felt it a great success. He travelled to Tower on occasion to visit old friends and was happy to see that the Tower had changed for the better too. It was more open, less oppressive and it seemed to have developed a sense of humour again. The fact that children were being born in spades was refreshing to him and he soon overcame his bitterness and anger towards it, realising that everyone was changing and the stagnation he had left behind in Tower was gone. He enjoyed his visits and while he still didn't feel comfortable with the Mraal worshipping the elves, he could at least accept it when he was there.
He was one of the hostages taken during the initial skirmish that started the Hostage Crisis. He was killed by Beliel sometime between NH 1405 and NH 1409.
Attitudes Towards:
Humans: Does not believe them to be inferior to his own race. Sometime he prefers the company of humans to that of elves.
Trolls: Again, thinks of them as equals. Geibryl understands that they simply have a different system of values from that of the elves, and that different is not synonymous with inferior.
Preservers: Tolerates them in the best humour possible.
