PERSONALITY/HISTORY:

"I think I could turn and live with the animals; they are so peaceful and self-contained." -- Walt Whitman

Remember how Rahirah used to talk to hawks from an early age?  Kyeer has been doing that with all animals* from an even earlier age, i.e. from about the time he learned to speak and send.  It's rare to see Kyeer anywhere without at least one accompanying animal, whether it's a dog trotting at his heels or curled up at his feet, a furkit sharing his bed ("Kyeer naptime -- kitty naptime?  Snuggy-warm!"), or any one of the myriad domestic creatures at New Hope that need to be fed, watched over, and cared for.  As he grew up he slid easily into the useful niche of animal tender and vet, for everything from goats and chickens to horses and hawks.

The problem is that Kyeer also needs to interact with people every so often.  He has a lot harder time understanding them than he does animals.  He's always been faintly resentful that he can't just stroll through their minds the way he can with animals, and impatient with how people always have to make everything so =complicated.=  Straightforward, practical interactions such as he has with a teacher (later a pupil) or a working partner are not a problem, but the various hide-and-seeks of social interaction leave him frustrated and bored.  (The fact that other people are not as tolerant of stable smells as he is also tends to slip his mind periodically.)  Kyeer has an inquisitive nature and is far from stupid; he could certainly learn the social dance if he wanted to, but has little motivation to do so.  With his family members he is affectionate and an incorrigible snuggler.  As a small child he'd climb into laps; when he got too big for that, he'd settle for just head in the lap, or leaning against a friendly shoulder.

From early teens onward (i.e. from the age when he could start roaming at large around New Hope rather than staying in or near the Household) Kyeer was fascinated by his older nephew Mistkit of Greenwillow:  **He can =turn into= any animal he wants!  COOL!**  Mistkit in turn found Kyeer a useful and enthusiastic partner in exploring his shapeshifting Talent, and the two eventually became close friends.

*"All animals" qualified to mean "animals with some pretension to a mind" -- in practice, mainly mammals and birds (though he's =interested= in other creatures; as a child he could sit and watch an anthill for hours).
