Nalkor has a strong sense of right and wrong. Likes to know where his duty lies, then will get straight to it. For Nalkor, to undertake a task means to complete it if at all -- er -- elfinly possible. Often undervalued or taken for granted; in fact, Nalkor sometimes undervalues himself and his accomplishments, saying he is "only doing his duty."
Very traditional, somewhat resistant to change, though once he has made up his mind to accept a change, as with the move from the Tower to New Hope, he accepts it wholeheartedly and plunges right in. Works well within a structure. Introverted by nature, he can "fake" extraversion when necessary (teaching, demonstrations, supervisory tasks). Steadfastly loyal.
Nalkor is Mikail's brother in all but blood. In contrast to his soulbrother's effusive, moody, quicksilver personality, Nalkor is rather quiet, generally good-natured and has an unobtrusive wit (so much so that people tend to miss his jokes at first, then do a double-take). He is reserved and somewhat shy; definitely a follower rather than a leader by nature, though neither unintelligent or mindless.
Admires common sense in an individual. Has an analytic mind and a good memory. Is able to absorb, remember, manage and manipulate a great deal of detail. However, he has a tendency to pay too much attention to what is, and not look beyond the facts for the implications.
A fine scout and a keen observer, a good surveyor and patroller. Also an excellent teacher and at the same time a dedicated student, though he learns best by doing. Relates well to others, elves and humans, in a teacher/student relationship. In Nalkor's eyes making sure that others' needs are met and making sure the job gets done are about equal priorities. For these and other reasons he was appointed the flight leader of New Hope, not because he particularly desired the position but because no one else came close to being qualified (other than, perhaps, Rahirah, who was even more obviously destined to be New Hope's hawkmaster). He'd like nothing better than to be able to groom a successor to the flight leader position and take the role of trainer / cadet master himself. (He is eventually able to do this with Vanjir.) A similar sense of duty impels him to take on the position of Acting Elder for Whistleleaf Household during Mikail's absences from New Hope.
Sometimes inflexible and unable to relax; on occasion has a tendency to overplan his time. Well disciplined by nature and dedicated to his work; a whirlwind of activity but a directed whirlwind -- always knows where he is going, even if the exact route is unclear. Very methodical: to use his own words, "a plodder, not a dreamer." Wasting time on "frivolity" is difficult for Nalkor. In his spare time one is likely to find him working on crafts like macrame and beadwork, or doing gymnastics or glider's exercises or weaponry practice. He prefers the companionship of one or two carefully chosen friends, or his bondbird, or simple solitude, to large gatherings, and doesn't really enjoy partying for the sake of partying, but doesn't mind ceremonial gatherings with a larger purpose (e.g. weddings, seasonal festivals, etc., which express the unity of the society he's chosen to live in).
Nalkor possesses incredible courage which has rarely been tested. He has a strong heart and a high sense of morality. Hates to be judged; knows perfectly well who and what he is and what his capabilities are . . . though he is always trying to stretch the latter. He is generous and giving, but will not put up with being used. In such a case he will not confront the object of his anger; he will simply be sweetly uncooperative when next that person needs or wants him. It takes a great deal to make him really angry. Most of the time Nalkor's anger is cold and forever -- he can, if provoked, carry a grudge to the end of time. Only once in his life so far has he been seen berserk with rage (in the Tower, when his sister narrowly escaped death by poisoning), and even then it was a cold and very directed berserkergang. The occasion scared some people -- Nalkor himself most of all.
He is a self-described "hopeless romantic." Enjoys giving gifts to family, friends, and lovers. He is at his emotional best in a loyal, reciprocal, and respectful romantic relationship. Love, for Nalkor, means commitment and a sense of security. Fortunately his Recognized, Coolbreath, shares these ideals to a great extent. While they must often live apart because of each one's loyalties and duties to their separate peoples, each can feel secure in the other's love and trust.
