PERSONAL INFO: Born in one of the Snowhaven feeder holts, her family had left one afternoon to go on a picnic when she was about sixteen. A group of snow trolls attacked the family, killing her parents and abducting her younger brother. Nightowl had managed to hide from them during the attack, but got herself very lost. Unable to find her way home, she managed to get completely turned around and headed south. Sometime in late autumn, she discovered a cave she could hole up in for the winter, except it was already occupied by a pregnant silver fox. She managed to win enough of the vixen's trust over the next moon or so, that she was able to winter in the cave, hunting for the both of them. Nightowl ended up staying there for two years or so, sharing the cave in the winters with the vixen and her kits. Until a tribe of humans decided that fox fur would be a wonderful addition to their wardrobes. Nightowl came home from a hunting trip to discover the skinne! d carcasses of the vixen and one kit; the other suffering from a long gash in its side that ruined its pelt. She healed the kit and left the area, the young fox following along with her. The following year, she found Sagewinds Holt, a small group of relatively young elves in desperate need of a healer, and here she made her home with them. She literally tripped over Crystalmoth (well, his tent, anyway) one day and found herself Recognized --a situation neither of them was happy with for a very long time. She was aboard the Cowrie (checking on Nightdancer's pregnancy) when Sagewinds was attacked by humans, and ended up going to sea when Calypso weighed anchor. When they returned a few days later, she found Crystalmoth rummaging through the empty holt, scavenging anything useful. Unable to find any of the other scattered elves before the humans returned to claim the spoils, she and Crystalmoth joined up with Calypso's crew. The set sail in hopes of finding either the Sagewinders! , or at least another tribe of elves they could stay with until the babies were born and old enough to handle traveling. Thus she ended up at New Hope.

She is known to have a nasty temper --especially in the morning-- but that seems to have mellowed in her years at New Hope. A true nightowl, she really doesn't want to know a thing about mornings. She accepts her position as one of the healers (though she is glad that there are others, so no one healer will have to overextend like se did back at Sagewinds) and takes the responsibility very seriously. But as Dove and Mikail are both stronger than she is, she is more than willing to let them tend to the other elves while she takes care mostly of the animals. After a violent storm at sea she discovered that unlike the others, she seems to be able to extend her Talent to heal humans and trolls as well, and they have also become "her" patients over the years.

She likes her privacy, tending to keep to herself and her family, but has learned that in a community such as New Hope, privacy is a rare commodity and is learning and is learning to deal with its lack. She's also beginning to develop a sense of humor, if a somewhat twisted one at times --best displayed when dealing with gossips and people with large noses. She is a relatively quiet person in public, though not meek by any standards, she is more outgoing and expressive when among her Household or the other healers. She still plays at being a grouch, but most are aware that it is only playing and has been since around the time of Piper's birth, when she and Crystalmoth decided to stay permanently at New Hope --even if the others left. And though she would still like to find out what happened to both her brother and the other Sagewinders, she is content to leave any such quests somewhere in the hazy future.
