Other info:

Born in the Hidden Valley to Brightcolor Desert parents, Raikan was raised in the conventional Brightcolor way and taught the arts of war by his father, Lionclaw, a tribal war leader.  As a child, Raikan admired his strict traditionalist father and emulated his way of life.  As he grew older, though,he noticed that other elves, and the Exiles in particular, led more sophisticated, interesting, and freer lives than his tribe.  The Deathwater Falls elves were entertaining, friendly people and hardly worth his father's derision--besides, they had fine-looking women....  Gradually, he began to
rebel against his father's old-fashioned customs.  The old ways were fine for the Brightcolor Desert, but this is the Hidden Valley!  What's wrong with having a little fun?

Carefree and outgoing, Raikan has adopted the Exile's "decadence" in an experimental, devil-may-care manner.  He doesn't care if the Exiles are High Ones or not--they're the way of the future.  If they didn't already exist, he feels, someone would have to invent them.  While he would hardly go as far as Redmane in imitating the High Ones physically, he has abandoned his Brightcolor Desert name, Warspear, in favor of his soulname in imitation (he believes) of the High Ones.  Raikan makes a conscious effort to refine his manners, tastes, and accent.  While Raikan may have abandoned his tribe's ways, he has not lost his warrior's spirit.  In battle he is fierce and brave, which he proved often in the days when he raided with his tribe.  He is extremely loyal to his close friends and considers their battles--physical or spiritual--as his own.

Raikan undergoes a shock when the Hidden Valley's attack on the Tower turns out not to be the glorious dashing battle of his dreams.  Later, during the Hostage Crisis, he is assigned to New Hope as one of the tribute collectors and undergoes a crisis of conscience, eventually changing sides and fighting on New Hope's side during the final battle.
